26th June
Today in La Orotava, Tenerife, I got to experience the start of the amazing Corpus Christi festival and the Procession of Saint Isidore. The whole town is buzzing with excitement from June 26th to the 29th. One of the coolest things I saw was the Town Hall square covered in these incredible carpets made from volcanic sand from Teide — so intricate and colorful!
Walking through the historic streets, I noticed locals carefully creating stunning carpets out of natural flowers. It felt like stepping into a living piece of art. Later, I caught glimpses of the procession where people carry the figures of the town’s patron saints, San Isidro and Santa María de la Cabeza, accompanied by decorated carts and groups singing traditional folk songs. The whole atmosphere was so vibrant and full of local spirit.
Besides the festival, I took some time to explore the charming town itself — the Plaza de la Constitución, Casa de los Balcones, and the Botanical Gardens are all must-sees. The mix of history, culture, and nature here is just breathtaking.
I’m especially looking forward to Sunday’s big procession at 2:30 PM, which promises even more music, floats, and local food. If you’re ever in Tenerife during this time, don’t miss out on this unique celebration in La Orotava!
